My parents, from India, will celebrate 50 years of marriage (arranged by their families) in a few months. I likely would not have allowed myself to fall as deeply in love with my then-boyfriend (now husband) had my mother not, while making quesadillas, waved her spatula for emphasis and stated, “I like him.” It was as close to an arranged marriage as I would tolerate, and I am thankful. Check out this article in The New York Times. You can almost hear my mother say, “I told you so.”
